Idea: Denmark’s northernmost city is located at the top of Jutland’s northern tip where the Kattegat and Skagerrak meet. In the 1870s and 80s, Skagen was a gathering place for many Scandinavian artists, “Skagenmålarna”, who were attracted there by the special light. Skagen has a large fishing and guest harbour and a shipyard. The population of Skagen has traditionally made a living from fishing. In recent times, tourism has taken over more and more and is today a year-round business. • “S” aqua blue = The seas that meet on “Grenen” • “K” blue = Art, Skagenmålarna • “A” beige = the sand and the wide beach at the northern tip of Jutland. • “E” red = The harbour with the red special “Fiskepackhusen”. • “N” green = meadows and beach grass.
